“We created the show because deaf characters, in television and film, are often solely defined by that very trait. As a result they’re not fully realized or three-dimensional, which sucks because characters, like people, are very boring if they are only one thing. With our show, we want to introduce the world to deaf characters written by deaf people, who lead intersectional lives that are complicated, funny, and sometimes heartbreaking, but never defined solely by their deafness.”
