Would I lie to you? Probably. But I’m telling you the truth when I say that Lie to Me has just cast Shoshannah Stern. The Jericho alum will recur during the show’s upcoming third season as a grad student hired to help Dr. Lightman (Tim Roth) write his new book.

Though some of psychologist’s colleagues fret that the newbie’s disability will make her job all but impossible—like the actress, the character is deaf—Lightman takes a shine to her.

Thoughts? Be honest, you think Stern is a pretty fantastic addition, don’t you? Hit the comments!

• Please retweet and repost what you can. The websites are www.hccd.org and www.pazapa.org. Check them our and decide what you want to give!

•There is no singular deaf school in Haiti. There are a few programs that support education for deaf students. Most are Christian based.

•@unikornus Found link for first program, very basic. Gave me their word the donations would go directly to the deaf students. www.hccd.org.

• More information on the deaf schools in Haiti from my third organization! This one is another Christian ministry called “In His Sign.”

• They say the two deaf schools in Haiti are OK! One sustained some damage, the other one is in the north and has no damage.

• The deaf students at the school are physically okay, however they do not have any information about deaf people in Port-au-Prince.

• Supplies are getting low because nothing is coming out of Port-au-Prince and both schools need money for food and water.

• I am so thankful to them for this information! They do not have a way to get donations yet. Their website is www.in-his-sign.com.

They say they will post more information later this week so check back if you want an update. I will continue to post if I get any news!

Got info about the deaf adult organization in Haiti called CAPPA. Checked their website and it says their building is completely destroyed.

Donations: Via Bank of New York, SWIFT code IRVTU3N. ABA # 021000018 For Further Credit to: BNCHHTPP Final Credit to: CAPPA 2041000356

• Their website is http://www.freewebs.com/cappahaiti

• There is no way to get food and supplies to Haiti right now. That could change in the next few weeks which is why they’re asking for money.

• Important information about Haiti, thanks to everyone for sharing with me! http://bit.ly/50A8eG

• I am not an expert on Haiti or deaf people in Haiti for that matter. I’m just getting what information I can and sharing it. You can too!

• @MarleeMatlin I know, isn’t it amazing? Been trying to get what information I can about deaf schools in Haiti and the deaf community. Hard!

• @DeafnessGuide Awesome! This is the person from In His Sign, seems to be a very compassionate organization. Keep sharing information!

• Got an email from another Christian organization in Haiti w/ a deaf school. No new information but need donations. http://www.nwhcm.org/

To my wonderful, amazing supporters—

This new chapter in my life has entered upon a wave of happiness and appreciation. I have been able to fulfill things that I’ve only dreamed about ever since I was a little girl, daydreaming in my little house in Fremont. Sometimes, when I get caught up in the little things in my present-day life, such as paying the bills, getting into a fender bender, or eating a little too much sushi and feeling temporarily bloated, I tell myself to stop and step outside of the present moment, and look at where I am now. That never fails to help me appreciate the beauty of life.

Finally getting to achieve my dream of acting professionally has made me grow where it really counts. I feel like I am a stronger person now within my heart and my spirit. Acting is a tough profession. It comes and goes, as many of you may already know. However, what makes me stay positive and persevere is you all, the people who have written to me or told me in person how much they believe in me and support me. I now believe that what I am doing is bigger than myself. With everything that I do, I’m trying to add a new dimension to how people out there see the deaf community, not just as deaf people, but individuals with minds and personalities of their own.

I come from the deaf community, and that has shaped me and allowed me to do everything I have done. I’m forever grateful for that and for the support that the community has shown me. I hope to continue to make you all proud in my forthcoming years!

All my love and gratitude,

Shoshannah

It happened midway through this production of Mark Medoff’s 1980 play about the struggles of the deaf in a hearing world—and ultimately about all of our struggles to hear and be heard. The play’s two leads, Shoshannah Stern and Matthew Jaeger, are stellar. More »
